Sanu Meerkat is a book about life’s promise to all living creatures – that a better existence awaits. The promise that love awaits.
Something makes Sanu Meerkat ill at ease. So he searches for that something. He searches amongst the things he knows. And he accomplishes, but he remains unfulfilled.
Many of us believe that we need a Teacher, a Guide, who can show us the way. When we are ready, our Guide finds us, or, we are pulled towards It, and our journeys commence. Sometimes even without our knowing it at first.
This is the story of the adventures of someone who felt that pull and heeded it, whilst in the background, something lingered. A story of a life lived with the sincerity to constantly grow, and eventually progressing under the guidance of a Teacher. A life as experienced by a meerkat.

About the place.
Mabuasehube, the place of red earth, sacred land in the deep Kalahari, one of the last wilderness areas on the planet.
Mabuasehube, where the grasses whisper their ancient anthems and allow the breeze to carry them far. Where nothingness is as loud as a roar, where the rhythms of nature lie undisturbed.
Mabuasehube is a squared section of land in the North Eastern corner of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in Southern Botswana on the African continent.
It is the Kalahari Desert at its purest and contains some six prominent dry pans, only covered with a thin layer of water for a few days after a rare thunderstorm. The remnants of large inland lakes of ancient times, these were formed through a combination of climate changes, tectonic activity, wind erosion, and the natural process of evaporation in these arid regions.
They are known by their names in the local vernacular – Mpayathutlwa, Monamodi, Lesholoago and Mabuasehube, the latter with the same name as the region. These roughly form an imagined rectangle on a map, with another two, Bosobogolo and Khiding, lying more to the South and West respectively.
It is in this place where the story of Sanu Meerkat unfolds.

Rudolph de Wet is of the Afrikaner tribe, but not a typical one. He was born on a farm in the Free State, South Africa. After various schools he moved to Pretoria where he studied and worked, in later years also serving in the wider South Africa and Tanzania.
With an adventurous spirit and as a lover of nature, he travelled Southern Africa extensively by road, even crossing the equator. But always favouring the arid regions, the Namib, the Karoo and the Kalahari.
He will not often be found on busy city streets, in shopping malls or at parties. No, he enjoys travelling on remote roads and will rather be in the veld.
Having never had children, he currently lives in a rural town in the Karoo with his wife, Anika, who shares his passions. They travel regularly to their favourite places off the beaten track.
